H.E. Sheikh Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani
A leading figure in education, culture, and public policy, Sheikh Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani serves as Chairman of Media City Qatar and Advisor to the Amiri Diwan. He is Chair of the Executive Board and Vice Chairman of the Board of Regents at Qatar University, Vice Chair and Managing Director at Qatar Leadership Centre, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
He is the founder of Al Markhiya Gallery — Qatar’s first gallery dedicated to Arab art — and East Wing, a global platform for contemporary photography. He also chairs the Lusail Museum Advisory Committee, supporting Qatar Museums’ cultural initiatives.
Internationally, he serves on the boards of Georgetown University, the Baker Institute for Public Policy (as a Life Member), and the International Advisory Council of the American University of Beirut. A former Vice President of Education at Qatar Foundation and founding President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, he led the creation of the Qatar National Library and chaired the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE).
His commitment to education, arts, and cultural exchange continues to shape spaces where tradition meets innovation and young voices thrive.
He is the founder of Al Markhiya Gallery — Qatar’s first gallery dedicated to Arab art — and East Wing, a global platform for contemporary photography. He also chairs the Lusail Museum Advisory Committee, supporting Qatar Museums’ cultural initiatives.
