Advisor to the Amiri Diwan and Chairman of Media City Qatar, Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani is a leading force in Qatar’s cultural, educational, and public-policy spheres, driving artistic talent and cross-cultural exchange. He founded Al Markhiya Gallery, the nation’s first gallery devoted to Arab art, and East Wing, a global platform for contemporary photography. His cultural leadership extends to his role as President of the Lusail Museum Advisory Committee for Qatar Museums.

His contributions to higher education are equally notable. He serves as Chair of the Executive Board and Vice Chairman of the Board of Regents at Qatar University, Vice Chair and Managing Director of Qatar Leadership Centre, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.

Internationally, he serves on the boards of Georgetown University, the Baker Institute for Public Policy (as a Life Member), and the International Advisory Council of the American University of Beirut. A former Vice President of Education at Qatar Foundation and founding President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, he led the creation of Qatar National Library and was the founding Chairman of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE).

Through all his roles, he continues to shape environments where heritage and innovation meet and where rising voices are empowered to lead.

Entrepreneur, philanthropist, and patron of the arts, Ashraf Abu Issa is the Chairman of Abuissa Holding, one of the Middle East’s leading family-owned conglomerates with diversified operations in retail, distribution, real estate, and investments.

A passionate art collector and cultural advocate, Mr. Abu Issa is also the Founder and CEO of AlBahie Auction House, Qatar’s first fine art and antiques auction house, and Owner of Bissan Gallery, a contemporary art gallery that supports regional and international artists. Through these ventures, he has played a key role in enriching Qatar’s cultural landscape, fostering artistic dialogue, and supporting the creative economy in the region.

His dedication to the arts extends beyond business — Mr. Abu Issa actively supports emerging artists, art education, and heritage preservation, believing in art’s power to connect people and tell stories across generations.

In recognition of his entrepreneurial leadership and commitment to community development, he was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011. He also co-founded INJAZ Qatar, a non-profit organization empowering youth through education, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Wael Shawky
Wael Shawky is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work interrogates religion, historical narrative, and myth across media. His epic film trilogy, Cabaret Crusades, and the poetic series Al Araba Al Madfuna are widely celebrated for blending puppetry, child actors, and historical reimaginings.

Wael Shawky is the Artistic Director of Fire Station, where he launched the Arts Intensive Study Program (AISP) – a transformative initiative designed to foster critical thinking, hands-on research, and professional development for emerging Qatari and international artists. By combining studio practice, theoretical input, and critical discourse, the AISP aims to complement traditional art education and foster a new generation of innovative and critically engaged artists.

As Artistic Director of Art Basel Qatar, Shawky leads the curatorial vision for the fair’s inaugural edition. In 2024, he represented Egypt at the Venice Biennale with his filmed opera Drama 1882. His exhibitions include LUMA Arles (France), Talbot Rice Gallery (Edinburgh), and major institutions across the Gulf, Europe, and Asia.

He brings deep curatorial expertise and cultural perspective to any platform focused on artistic growth and social imagination. His work bridges cultural heritage and future vision, inspiring young creators to explore identity through multidisciplinary expression.

Dr Waseem Kotoub is a cultural strategist and interdisciplinary leader whose career bridges the arts, education, and international collaboration. As the Country Director of the British Council in Qatar, he champions youth-focused cultural programmes that foster creativity, dialogue, and global exchange.

With a background as a concert pianist, composer, and curator, Dr Kotoub brings a deep understanding of the transformative power of the arts. He has pioneered regional programmes in performing arts, creative entrepreneurship, and inclusion — supporting strategic UK-Middle East cultural dialogue. Previously, he led arts and sports portfolios in the Gulf and played a key role in cross-ministerial engagement between the UK and Qatar.

Dr Kotoub brings a unique approach to cultural leadership rooted in care, access, and cross-disciplinary innovation and remains a strong advocate for inclusive cultural access and creative education that connects generations and communities across borders.

With a background in filmmaking, his work spans from directing and producing to curating immersive experiences that reflect both Qatari heritage and the complexity of modern identity. Randa Sadaka is a Multilingual curator, writer, and cultural strategist with over a decade of experience shaping contemporary art narratives across Europe, Asia, and the Arab world. Cofounder of Beirut Art Days and recognised for award-winning journalism and literary contributions. Randa is known for a dynamic curatorial practice bridging heritage, innovation, and cross-cultural dialogue, advising collectors and institutions with scholarly insight and narrative vision.

Her curatorial work encompasses major solo and group exhibitions, spanning Basel, Riyadh, Doha, and Beirut, with a focus on regional identity, feminine narrative, and emerging talent. She is also an award-winning journalist and author, recognised by WAN-IFRA and La Francophonie.

Her writing and exhibitions reflect a commitment to storytelling, cross-cultural dialogue, and preserving artistic memory in times of transformation.

Randa’s curatorial vision builds platforms for artistic dialogue, empowering emerging talent and preserving cultural narratives across borders.
